Three New Pilot & Feasibility Grants Awarded
In 2022, NUGoKidney Pilot & Feasibility Program funded three new projects totaling nearly $150,000 in funds. These projects highlight NUGoKidney’s mission to facilitate new cross-disciplinary translational research for the identification and successful implementation of novel therapeutics for kidney disease. 2022 funded projects are:
- Hispanic Disparities in Home Dialysis Utilization
- Anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory high-loading peptide nanoparticles for the preservation of kidney function following transplantation-associated ischemia-reperfusion injury
- Targeted Immunosuppressive Nanotherapy for Ex Vivo Delivery in Kidney Transplantation: Establishment of Preclinical Studies
In total the program has funded 19 investigators – eight from other academic institutions. Find all our funded project here.
SciHigh Welcomed It's Fourth Cohort of Budding Scientist
On June 27th, NUGoKidney welcomed 6 budding scientist from 3 high schools across Chicago for our SciHigh Summer Program. The 7-week program combined in-person mentorship, hands-on experiences, and interactive sessions led by experts in STEMM to engage students and provide them with the tools needed to feel confident about their skills in science and medicine.
This summer SciHigh Scholars demoed HoloAnatomy Software with Dr. Angelique Duenas, experienced clinical simulations with Simulations Lab and visited the Evanston campus for the CLP Core Crawl. Along with weekly Career in STEMM conversations with faculty, staff, students and visiting lecturers, students presented their research findings to peers, mentors, teachers and family during our closing showcase.
